Track and Field Day Recap (and pictures)

As expected, our Track and Field Day for ES was a big success! The children all seemed to have a fantastic time out in the fresh, cool breeze and warm Arabian sunshine. Anytime we can get outside during the winter in Dubai is a good day to me.

Please enjoy these pictures from our day. (I included all of them, even if there were several that were very similar. I know that in group shots, one picture may be better of one's child than another, so I wanted to at least try to give you some options to choose your personal favorite.)

Also, I want to especially thank you the following parents who gave up their time and energy to kindly serve our class (and me) as group leaders or volunteers: Doaa, Merry, Ela, Aatika, Dania, Liubov, Rania, Lamis, Julie, Nina, and Afshan. It was great to see many of you there, supporting the children and cheering them on. It really made a difference and added to our 3LN team spirit!

A huge thank you and congratulations to these fine coaches who organized a fun, smooth, and successful event!

Track and Field Day

Our ES Track and Field Day right around the corner and scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 31. This is a very enjoyable day for students and lasting memories are always made. Also, just by way of reminder, our class color is GREEN. Kindly ensure that you have a plain green T-shirt for your child to wear on Jan. 31. (If you recently ordered a DAA Track and Field Day short, they should be arriving in the next week...inshAllah.)

I am looking for some volunteers to help with our girl team and boy team. Who's in?!

What's involved?

The volunteers will:
  • travel with each group, making sure students make it to each activity station
  • encourage all students to participate
  • facilitate bathroom breaks
  • take part in the fun
If you would like to volunteer your time on Tuesday, Jan. 31 (from 8:00-12:30), please let me know. It's preferable to have two parents traveling with each group, so that you will have some adult company and another person with you, in case of an emergency. (If I have enough volunteers, I am able to go back and forth between the boy and girl team to take pictures and cheer with each team.)

Please email me if you are interested in helping, even if it's just for a couple of hours.

Thanks so much in advance! It's always a really great day of sports! (If you're curious what the day entails, these pictures from our fun last year will help.)

Track and Field Day Recap

As expected, our Track and Field Day for ES was a big success! The children all seemed to have a fantastic time out in the fresh, cool breeze and warm Arabian sunshine. Anytime we can get outside during the winter in Dubai is a good day to me.

Please enjoy these pictures from our day. These are the ones Mikyung took, in case you missed them. (Thank you sooo much, once again, for taking these, Mikyung. I absolutely love them!) And, here are a few that Hiba was able to capture when she wasn't directing excited boys.
The girls were full of team spirit!!
Also, I want to especially thank you the following parents who gave up their time and energy to kindly serve our class (and me) as group leaders: Hiba, Kim, and Dawn. Also, it was great to see many others of you there, supporting the children and cheering them on. It really made a difference and added to our 3LN team spirit!
Sunil, Dawn, Kim, Hiba, and Mikyung all added to our fun day.
I love my girls!
And, my boys, too!!
Yes, we were tired, so we decided to lay down while the boys all ran around. yep.
A bit of war paint is always important.

Track and Field Day Recap

GO GREEN!
The class seemed to thoroughly enjoy our Track and Field Day yesterday, which was evidenced by their tremendous effort, excellent sportsmanship, beaming smiles, and generally high spirits throughout the entire day. I was so pleased to see how well they participated, cheered each other on, and gave their absolute best. Way to go, 3LN! I'm so proud of you!!!

Please enjoy these pictures of our day. I included all 198 of them, even multiple copies of the same pose, as I'm sure some parents will like their child's expression in one of the pictures versus another one. I found great pleasure in watching their facial expression as some were particularly intense, showing their competitive side, while others were downright silly, which beautifully captured their unique personalities. Each one of our sweeties is just so special and I love them each so much!

I want to also take a moment to thank Samantha, Heba, Seongmi, as these mothers came to help assist throughout the day. Please know that I really appreciate your help!! It was so lovely to also see so many parents come to watch, so thank you, as well! I know your child absolutely loved having you there.

A very special thank you to Iaan's mom, Seongmi, who created this special video of the day for us to treasure. Thank you!!!

PS. Dear Deniz and Abdalla, know that we missed you and hope you are feeling better!

Help Needed

Dear Parents,

As you know, our Track and Field Day will be on Tuesday, Feb. 3. The children are very excited as they have been working very diligently to improve their athletic abilities and skills! Please feel free to come and watch for as long or as little as you like. You're very welcome!

I'd like to ask a favor. I need one or two parents who would be willing to help by taking a group of children for the day. You do not have to teach anything, just lead them from one event to the next.

Update: Thank you, Samantha and Heba, who kindly offered to help. I really appreciate it!!

I usually divide the class into boys and girls. Ms. Csilla will take one group and a parent (or two parents, if you want to split up the day) would take the other group. This assistance will allow me to circulate throughout the day and take pictures of your sweeties. (So, I will always be in close proximity if you have a question or need something.) I used this strategy last year and was able to capture some really great moments.

Please send me an email if you are interested and available to help. The hours are from 8-1 pm. (Please bring your own lunch.) Also, this is just a reminder that there will be NO hot lunch available on Tuesday, so please pack a delicious, healthy lunch for your child.

Here are a few other reminders:
  • Bring a WATER BOTTLE.
  • Sunscreen is highly recommended and hats are welcome.
  • Students need to wear their track and field day t-shirt, or a solid color t-shirt of their team color, with their PE shorts and proper running shoes.
  • The snack provided by DAAPA is yogurt and granola, and fresh juice. If your child has other nutritional requirements (i.e. gluten-free, allergies), please bring extra snack.
Thank you in advance for your willingness to help. We really appreciate it!

Ms. Laura

Track and Field Day News

ES Track and Field Day
Tuesday, February 3rd, 2014
Greetings parents,

Plans are already underway for our DAA ES Track and Field Day!  All Grade 3, 4 and 5 students (yes, over 500 students!) will participate in track and field events during the school day.  Parents are encouraged to come out and cheer on their child’s class, as they try to run faster, jump higher, and throw further!

Each homeroom will be assigned a colour, and we ask that all students from that homeroom wear a T-shirt of that solid colour (no logos or stripes please).  For your convenience, we are offering T-shirts available for sale at DAA, for 50aed.  They are made from dri-fit material, have the DAA Track and Field logo, and are available in each of the colours.  T-shirts will be sold on an order-ahead basis, but stocks are limited.  Samples will be shown to each class, and students will need to fill out a form to bring back to their homeroom teachers, with payment.

All order forms will be sent home on Sunday, January 4th. Orders will be closed on Wednesday, January 7th, so our supplier can finish the T-shirts on time.  There are 3 sizes to choose from, and if your child isn’t sure what size they are, he/she can use the samples given to the classroom teacher to decide.

It is not mandatory to buy a shirt, it’s simply an opportunity to look sharp and be ready for our Track and Field Day!

Homeroom colors are:

Volunteer(s) Needed

We are all looking forward to Track and Field Day on Tuesday! The class is very excited and has been working very hard in PE for the last several weeks.

I need at least 1-2 volunteers to help for this big event. While this is a fun day for the students, we teachers will need all the help we can get to help guide children, provide bathroom breaks (for both Veronika and me), as well as general assistance.

If you are available for even 2 hours, it would be a HUGE help. Please send me an email to let me know if you can make it. And, thank you so very much in advance!!

***Important note about Thursday, Feb. 6th***

**Please note these two important items for Thursday**

Dear Parents,

As you are aware from media coverage, the Dubai Tour cycle race will impact on traffic in the Dubai area tomorrow and over the weekend. GEMS schools will remain open on February 6th as normal. However we do acknowledge that school buses and general transport might have difficulties accessing certain areas; more specifically in Motor City, Al Sufouh Area, Media City and The Palm Jumeirah. Therefore drop-off at the end of the school day could be adversely affected and delayed. Should you have any specific difficulties, kindly contact your school directly. Thank you for the understanding and cooperation.

Best Regards,
Servee Palmans
Director School Administration & Business Operations
GEMS Education

Dear Parents,

Due to the Dubai Cycle event taking place over the next four days and its impact on the traffic around the Dubai American Academy campus, we have decided to postpone the ES Track and Field Day.
The new date of the ES Track and Field Day will be Tuesday, February 11th between 8am-1pm.
This means that tomorrow, Thursday, February 6th, will be a normal day of school.  Please have your students dressed in the proper school uniform, formal or PE (save those colors for Tuesday!).
There will be no hot lunch service tomorrow due to the short notice, so please send a lunch with your child.

Thank you for your understanding as we do our best to manage this situation.

Kind Regards,

The ES Admin Team and ES PE Department

Track and Field Day News

From the ES PE Department:

Dear Parents,

Track and Field Day for all Grade 3, 4 and 5 classes will be held on Thursday, February 6th, 8 am to 1 pm.The students have been working really hard to provide their best speed and power for this day!  You are welcome to come and cheer on your child and their team!

(updated info. as of Jan. 29): The day will be filled with a lot of activities, requiring many extra hands, to ensure safety for our children and success for the event.  For this reason, DAA has established a robust volunteer program, supported by volunteers from the DAA community, US Consulate Marine volunteers, and US Navy volunteers from Port Jebel Ali.  Please welcome all of our volunteers, as they are offering their time, to ensure our children have a GREAT time.

Just a reminder there will be no hot lunch served on this day, so pack an extra energy supplying lunch for your child.

Each homeroom has been assigned a color (ours is ORANGE), and we are asking that your child wear a T-shirt of that color, their PE shorts and proper running shoes on Feb. 6th. Colored T-shirts will be available for purchase next week after school in the ES lobby, on Wednesday, Jan 29.  It is not mandatory to buy one, but it will be a comfortable, dri-fit shirt for them to wear.

Mark your calendars for these upcoming dates!

Thanks!

Allison Deakin
ES PE Teacher
