Swimming starts Wednesday!

This Wednesday, Feb. 1, students in 3LN will be starting their next swimming unit.  

They should bring the following every single day starting Wednesday: 

• swim cap
• swimsuit (one piece)
• goggles
•  towel
• flip flops

Students may wear their bathing suits under their uniform only on Days 1 and 6. They should change into their bathing suits at school on Days 3 and 8. (This is due to hygienic and comfort reasons, since we have swimming towards the end of the day on Days 3 and 8.) 

If a student cannot participate for medical reasons, then he/she will need to bring in a doctor's note.

Students will be given one mulligan (free pass) if they forget their swim gear.  If they forget their swim gear twice in the ten day cycle, then they will go down one grade level.

PE during Ramadan

 Please note the following message from the ES Admin: 

While we prefer that students who are fasting do not participate in PE, if you prefer that your child participates in PE classes while they are fasting, please send a signed note to your child’s teacher. Please ensure the note explicitly states that you are aware that your child is not eating or drinking, but that you would like to them to continue to participate in PE activities. Your child’s classroom teacher will pass the note to their PE teacher.  Thanks so much for your support. 

Swimming

It's that time again, which is perfect timing as the temperatures are starting to slowly creep up again. 

Our class will have their first swimming class on Day 3, Thursday, April 28th. 

Mr. James has spoken to all of his classes about being fully prepared for the swimming classes by bringing all their appropriate swimming gear, which includes the following items:

 1. swimming goggles and cap
 2. swim attire- boys (swim shorts) and girls (one-piece suits)
 3. flip flops
 4. towel

 As Per Ms. Kit:

All students will participate unless they have a medical note that states they have the following conditions:

 1. Fever
 2. Ear Infection
 3. Broken arm
 4. Stitches

All other inquires should kindly contact  Ms. Kit regarding any exceptions or emergencies.

FYI: The water temperature and PH level is suitable for the children, as we are monitoring it to ensure it’s safe and acceptable.

Track and Field Day

Our ES Track and Field Day right around the corner and scheduled for Tuesday, February 2. This is a very enjoyable day for students and lasting memories are always made. Also, just by way of reminder, our class color is GREEN. Kindly ensure that you have a plain green T-shirt for your child to wear on Feb. 2. 

I am looking for some volunteers to help with our girl team and boy team. Who's in?! 

What's involved? 

The volunteers will: 

• travel with each group, making sure students make it to each activity station 
• encourage all students to participate 
• facilitate bathroom breaks
• take part in the fun

If you would like to volunteer your time on Tuesday, Feb. 2 (from 8:00 ish - 1:30 ish), please let me know. It's preferable to have two parents traveling with each group, so that you will have some adult company and another person with you, in case of an emergency. (If I have enough volunteers, I am able to go back and forth between the boy and girl team to take pictures and cheer with each team.)

Please email me if you are interested in helping, even if it's just for a couple of hours.

Swimming News

Last week, our PE Teacher, Mr. James informed our class that they will their swimming unit. These classes will be during your child’s regularly scheduled P.E. lessons and not in addition to them. Students are to wear their PE clothes to school on these days. Just to be clear, our swimming days will be the following: 

• Day 3, Monday, Oct. 19th
• Day 5, Sunday, Oct. 25th
• Day 6, Monday, Oct. 26th 
• Day 8, Wednesday, Oct. 28th
• Day 10, Sunday, Nov. 1st 

During the swimming class, students will focus on stroke development, body position and breathing techniques. The measured water temperature has averaged 30C.

Here is a list of items students will need to bring to school for swimming class:

• Swimsuit (girls - one piece please)
• Towel
• Sandals/flip flops (prevents slipping and keeps feet healthy)
• Plastic bag for wet items
• Goggles – mandatory (promotes proper technique)
• Swim Cap – mandatory (ensures a cleaner pool)

Please remember to label all swimming gear and towel tags so we can return lost items. 

Also, it is very important to keep the P.E. Staff informed of any health problems or health conditions. Students need to bring a written note from a doctor to inform their P.E. teacher if a student is unable to participate in swimming. Otherwise, if a child is at school, they should be well enough to be in the pool.

If students miss any swim class, their grade can be affected. We only have 5 classes of swimming in this unit, so even missing one class is missing 20% of swim time.

Grade 3, 4 and 5 students are expected to be in the pool without a life belt. If your child still requires one, or has any concerning issues with swimming, please let Mr. James know.

Track and Field Day News

From the ES PE Department:

Dear Parents,

Track and Field Day for all Grade 3, 4 and 5 classes will be held on Thursday, February 6th, 8 am to 1 pm.The students have been working really hard to provide their best speed and power for this day!  You are welcome to come and cheer on your child and their team!  

 (updated info. as of Jan. 29): The day will be filled with a lot of activities, requiring many extra hands, to ensure safety for our children and success for the event.  For this reason, DAA has established a robust volunteer program, supported by volunteers from the DAA community, US Consulate Marine volunteers, and US Navy volunteers from Port Jebel Ali.  Please welcome all of our volunteers, as they are offering their time, to ensure our children have a GREAT time. 

Just a reminder there will be no hot lunch served on this day, so pack an extra energy supplying lunch for your child.  

Each homeroom has been assigned a color (ours is ORANGE), and we are asking that your child wear a T-shirt of that color, their PE shorts and proper running shoes on Feb. 6th. Colored T-shirts will be available for purchase next week after school in the ES lobby, on Wednesday, Jan 29.  It is not mandatory to buy one, but it will be a comfortable, dri-fit shirt for them to wear.
