Book Souk

It’s time for the annual Book Souk in the library! The Book Souk will take place Monday, June 12. 

The Book Souk is an opportunity for students to trade in good quality, Elementary-School-age-appropriate books for other students’ gently used books. 

This is an optional activity. Interested students should bring up to 5 (only) books they would like to trade to the library anytime until Monday morning, June 12. 

Clean off your shelves at home, and get some free summer reading material for the kids! Please join us!

From the library...

This cycle during library classes students have begun using a new website called Biblionasium to log books they have read and want to read, and to give and get recommendations about books. ES teachers (and the librarian!) can set fun reading challenges for students to meet.

To access Biblionasium from home, you can go to www.bibilonasium.com and choose “Log in with Destiny.” Students enter their library catalog usernames and passwords. For most students, it is first letter of first name and lastname (mine is smollenkramer). The password is daa12345.  Some students have different usernames, which they will know themselves.

Hopefully this safe, social community will inspire our students to get even more excited about their reading!

News from the Library

Dear Parents,

The library will be getting new carpet over the winter break. This means the library will be closed to the DAA community as of December 4th. Library lessons will be held in the classrooms during this time; however, students will not be able to check out books. Please feel free to come to the library this week to check out books to read in December, but please remember to keep them in a safe place at home, and not to take library books with you when you travel. We will reopen the library as soon as possible in the new year.

It's that dreaded time of the year when we discover how many library books are missing! Actually, four is not so bad; however, we'd still like to recover them, if possible.

Book Souk

The ES Library will be hosting a Book Souk on Thursday, June 9. This will be a great way to clear your shelves, and stock up on some free reading material for summer! 

Students have until Wednesday, June 8 to bring in "gently used" books and will receive a credit for each book brought in, which can be used to select a different book at the souk. Please send books appropriate for grades 3-5, and no more than 5 books per student. 

Also, please note that our last day for checkout is this Thursday, June 2. All books will be due from Sunday, June 5.

🔆 Summer Reading Book Recommendations🔆

Our lovely librarian, Sarah Mollenkramer, has had a few requests start to trickle in for summer reading recommendations, so she wanted to share the links below, which are some good lists for all types of readers. 

Ms. Mollenkramer will review DAA's ebook collection with the students in June, so that they are aware of our digital and audio book collection, which will be available to them all summer.

Our next DAAPA pizza lunch will be on Thursday, January 28th.  Order forms were sent home on Thursday.  All orders are due on Tuesday morning (Jan. 26th) with exact change please.  Unfortunately, NO orders will be accepted on Thursday.

DAAPA will be hosting a family movie night of the year on Thursday, January 28th. Gates open around 5:30 pm, with the movie starting at sunset. Admission and popcorn are free. Pizza, hotdogs/corn-dogs and drinks will be available for purchase.

Lost and Found Items on Display:  Please note lost and found items will be on display in the foyer from February 8-15th. After that, unclaimed items will be donated to charity.  In order to assist us with getting your child's lost items returned, please ensure that any item your child brings from home is clearly marked with their name.

As a reminder, the playground is a nice option for families to meet and greet after school and after ASAs. In order to keep this a safe, fun and positive environment, your child may only play on the playground after school or after ASAs if they are supervised by a parent or care giver. Students who are waiting to be picked up after school must wait quietly in the foyer only.

Mark your calendars! January 24-28 the PS/ES Library will be celebrating Love My Library Week.  Come and join us after school from 2:50-3:20 Sunday, Monday,Wednesday and Thursday for a range of fun activities including read alouds, a treasure hunt, a trivia contest, board games and more.  PARENTS please join us for a tour of the library on Wednesday, the 27th from 8:00-8:30.  The tour will include information on family library accounts, resources for parents, and an overview of the library curriculum and activities. Book Fair

The Spring Bookworm Book Fair will be held next week in the ES Conference Room.  

Parents are welcome to shop with their children before or after school, or during their child’s scheduled class visit. (Our visit will be Tuesday, May 26, from 8:05-8:30.) Labeled envelopes will also be sent home with students if you would like to send money so they can purchase books. The average cost of a book is AED 50.

Parent Engagement Reminder/Update

Remember to mark your calendars for our Parent Engagement session on Interactive reading next Wednesday from 8-8:45 am in our classroom. If you missed this post, please find it here. 

Also, parents are most welcome to visit the library at any time next week. Mrs. Mollenkramer is happy to speak to you about choosing just right books for your child. Mrs. Williams will have an open classroom on Wednesday from 11:10-11:50, which is our regular, scheduled art class.
