Missing Library Books

Dear Parents,

Could you please take a minute to see if any of these somehow ended up at your house? Ms. Csilla and I have searched in our classroom to no avail and, every year, we always discover that a few often make it home to students' houses.

Thanks so much!

World Book Day Recap

Well, that was fun. :) Yes, today was World Book Day, as well as the culmination of our Reading Week in the ES.  We celebrated by dressing up as some of our favorite book characters, reading outside inside in the fresh breeze, and by having lots of good chats about our favorite books.

Here are some amusing pictures for you to enjoy: (see all photos by clicking here

Reading Week

Next week is ES Reading Week!

To cap off an amazing week of celebrating reading, your child is encouraged to think about a great book they have read and come to school dressed up as that favorite book character on Thursday, March 2. This book character dress up day will spark many conversations between students about their favorite characters and continue to set the environment for the love of reading to be contagious.

As a reminder, we do not consider cartoon or movie characters as part of this day. Students are only permitted to wear costumes from book characters on this reading celebration day.

Thank you for your support and cooperation.

Happy reading!!

Missing Library Books

It's that dreaded time of the year when we discover how many library books are missing! Actually, four is not so bad; however, we'd still like to recover them, if possible.

These are the titles we are looking for, so kindly ask your child about them, since we used these for our research book clubs:

Book Drive

Do you have books you do not need anymore? Are you moving and want to pack less?

Please bring your gently used books to the MS/HS or ES Reception Desks.

As a Boy Scouts of America Eagle Project, Grade 10 student, Mills Hoyt, is collecting used books for a library he is creating for the Elite English School in Deira. The children attending this school are the children of laborers and they do not have a school library or the resources to create a library. Books from kindergarten to first grade level are wanted the most, but any books are acceptable!

Thank you in advance for your kind support!

March Madness

March Madness Reading Challenge

We are having a March Madness Challenge in 3LN. Every student will be responsible to participate by reading as many chapters as they can during the month of March. Together our class has set a goal to read 22, 076 minutes in all!

Students, in your new March Madness reading log, which is found on this sheet, please record the number of minutes you read each day, starting March 7th. After each book is read, you will take a book report form from our classroom to complete at home and return.

Each child who meets or exceeds his/his March Madness goal will be given a certificate and small prize. If our class meets or exceeds our goal, we will enjoy a pizza party as a reward. The class is already very excited and has set some challenging, yet realistic goals!!

Happy reading! :)

World Book Day and the ES Literacy Week

The children had a great time dressing up last Thursday for World Book Day! The activities we did throughout the week were also a big hit and the children's love of reading really shone through. I hope you'll enjoy these pictures from our literary fun!

Also, please click here to see more. :)
