Promised Links

So, we've been learning all kinds of things...and having some fun along the way, too, of course.

Darling students, here are the links I promised I'd share:

Enjoy!!

Book Souk

The ES Library will be hosting a Book Souk on Thursday, June 9. This will be a great way to clear your shelves, and stock up on some free reading material for summer!

Students have until Wednesday, June 8 to bring in "gently used" books and will receive a credit for each book brought in, which can be used to select a different book at the souk. Please send books appropriate for grades 3-5, and no more than 5 books per student.

Also, please note that our last day for checkout is this Thursday, June 2. All books will be due from Sunday, June 5.

Looking forward to a great exchange of books!

Lunch on Thursday

Due to the special Grade 5 events happening in the cafeteria on Thursday, June 2, PH7 will provide box lunches in lieu of hot lunches in the conference room for all grades. Please make a note.

Character Counts Dress Down Day!

On Thursday, June 2, all ES students are invited to come to school dressed as "someone who inspires you." Students should be prepared to talk about who inspires them and why.

Please ensure that your child wears appropriate clothing. For example, shorts and skirts should be PE uniform length and shirts should be modest (i.e. no spaghetti straps).

Thanks for your support,
Student Council

Special Seesaw Feature for Parents

Dear Parents,

This week, I received an email from Seesaw, an app you're all very familiar with by now, to inform me that parents can now download a .zip archive of their child’s work for free, anytime. "For parents who want to save their child’s work outside of Seesaw at the end of the year, this is a much simpler option than downloading files individually."

To learn how it works, please view the information here.

Thanks for all of your active participation. It always makes me smile to see so many of you interested in what your child (and other students) are posting. They sure are smart (and cute), aren't they??

Free Pizza!

Dear Parents,

Next Thursday, May 26, pizza will be provided for FREE during lunch, courtesy of DAAPA. Each child will be given 2 slices of pizza, a juice and a frozen fruit bar.

If you feel that your child will not be satisfied, then please supplement their lunch as you see fit.

Thank you for your support,

DAAPA

Character Counts Feature Week

Hello, ES Students and Families!

We are very much looking forward to next week when the ES has our final Character Counts ‘feature’ week of the year. The purpose behind our Character Counts feature week is to keep the traits at the top of our students’ minds.

We will be highlighting Respect and Responsibility in the context of taking care of our environment next week. We would like to learn about how recycling happens around the UAE.

Students can use this link to complete a survey about recycling. Our goal is to use the information we collect from the survey to create a resource for our DAA community about how and where recycling can take place around Dubai.

Please have a conversation with your student about where you take the recycled material to be recycled in your neighborhood. Thank you also for helping us to collect pictures of students recycling at home or in the neighborhood

Pictures are due to homeroom teachers by Wednesday, May 25. Please ask your child about what activity he or she does each day next week to help encourage our Respect and Responsibility character traits.

Thanks for your support,
Ms. Marti and Ms. Sarah (Marshall)

🔆 Summer Reading Book Recommendations🔆

Our lovely librarian, Sarah Mollenkramer, has had a few requests start to trickle in for summer reading recommendations, so she wanted to share the links below, which are some good lists for all types of readers.

Ms. Mollenkramer will review DAA's ebook collection with the students in June, so that they are aware of our digital and audio book collection, which will be available to them all summer.

Happy reading!

Book Drive

Do you have books you do not need anymore? Are you moving and want to pack less?

Please bring your gently used books to the MS/HS or ES Reception Desks.

As a Boy Scouts of America Eagle Project, Grade 10 student, Mills Hoyt, is collecting used books for a library he is creating for the Elite English School in Deira. The children attending this school are the children of laborers and they do not have a school library or the resources to create a library. Books from kindergarten to first grade level are wanted the most, but any books are acceptable!

Thank you in advance for your kind support!

A special urgent request...

A few little mice are busily working on preparing a small surprise for you; however, it involves pictures. I have what I need for many children, but I still need a picture from the following:
  • Salam
  • Felicia
  • Lamis
  • Andreea
  • Dora
  • Max
  • Olivia
  • Rakaan
  • Eita
  • Yihyun
  • Nia
  • Iskander
  • Omar
The picture can be current or from the past. It should include you and your child (preferably just the two of you, if possible). Here's a nice example of me and my beautiful mother:

And, if your name is not listed, it means I already have a picture of the two of you; however, if you have one you just love, then you can certainly send it in to school or email it to me.

The size should be enough to fill a 3" by 4" vertical box, but I can always cut the picture down, if needed. It would be best if you emailed it to me, but hard copies also work. I really need the picture by tomorrow, if possible, as I'm likely traveling for the long weekend. (I'm so sorry for the late notice. I thought I had all the pictures I needed from all of our events, but I don't!)

Thanks so much!

Upcoming Field Trip

We are very excited to have the opportunity to go see James and the Giant Peach at DUCTAC on Thursday, May 12! Field trip forms were sent home on Thursday, so please return those by Wednesday, May 4, along with AED 110, which is a reduced group rate. Thanks so much in advance!
